D'Arcy and Domino Go Walkabout

D'Arcy, Wessex Heartbeat's CEO, and his faithful fundraising ally Domino today set off on an 105 mile walk across the South Downs Way to raise funds for Heartbeat House.

Starting at King Alfred statue in Winchester, D’Arcy and black cocker spaniel Domino will be walking between nine and fourteen miles every day for nine days.  The route encompasses many places and sights including Meon Springs, Devils Dyke and the ‘Seven Sisters’ before finishing at Eastbourne.

D’Arcy is hoping to raise £1,000 to fund the running of Heartbeat House for one week.  Heartbeat House is one of the key services offered by Wessex Heartbeat, providing free accommodation for relatives of cardiac patients.  The house offers a comfortable home from home and is just a couple of minutes walk from the Hospital.

D’Arcy said “As you can imagine if your loved one is being treated at the Cardiac Centre you’d like to be as near to them as possible and frequent, long journeys to the hospital can be not only stressful but expensive. 

Relatives can stay for as long as is needed and find support along with a much needed cup of tea.  I have taken on several challenges in the past to raise funds for Wessex Heartbeat but this year I thought I’d need a little help so I thought Domino could join me.  We would be very grateful for your support, or even better come and join us on the walk and help make a difference to the lives of local people living with a heart condition and their loved ones.”

D'Arcy and Domino are being joined on the first day of their walk by Chrissie Halpern, Domino's Pizza franchisee and members of Domino's Team Solent.  Chrissie said, “We are all really excited to be taking part, we love walking and keeping fit and this is an ideal opportunity for us to do both while helping such a worthwhile cause."
