D'Arcy makes a splash at Swimafun

Wessex Heartbeat's Chief Executive Officer, D'Arcy Myers and his family went to great lengths, 110 to be exact, in September to raise funds for the charity! D'Arcy and his sons Rory (15), Theo (13) and George (8) formed a relay team to participate in a "Swimafun" at the Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre in Christchurch.

The evening was organised by The Rotary Club of Christchurch and raised about £10,000 for deserving local charities which included Wessex Heartbeat. The "Swimafun" money has been earmarked towards establishing the Young Adults Ward in the Wessex Cardiac Centre.

"Our vision is to create an area that supports young people's personal needs as well as their medical needs. With teenagers of my own I know how important it is for them to have their own space the way they like it" said D'Arcy.

"The new ward will be designed to meet their needs with computers, games, music and a quiet space." D'Arcy and his sons took an hour to swim the 110 lengths and were just one of 21 teams who took to the water for the fundraising event.
