In The Swim

Thanks To Christchurch Rotary ClubCheque Presentation

Christchurch Rotary Club has made quite a splash with Wessex Heartbeat after handing over a cheque for £2,250.

The proceeds were raised during a "Swimafun" at the Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre in Christchurch. The cheque was presented by Rotarian Howard Matthews, who is Chairman of the Swimafun Committee for 2009, and also Chairman of the International Committee, to Tiffany Seddon, Wessex Heartbeat's Fundraising Manager.

Among the 21 relay teams taking part in the event was Wessex Heartbeat's Chief Executive Officer, D'Arcy Myers and his sons Rory, Theo and George, who swam a combined 110 lengths. The evening raised more than £10,000 for deserving local charities, including Wessex Heartbeat. The "Swimafun" money has been earmarked towards establishing the Young Adults Ward in the Wessex Cardiac Centre.

"Our vision is to create an area that supports young people's personal needs as well as their medical needs. With teenagers of my own I know how important it is for them to have their own space the way they like it" said D'Arcy. "The new ward will be designed to meet their needs with computers, games, music and a quiet space."
