In June this year Jim Cook and a team of "like minded fools" took on the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Wessex Heartbeat, a charitable organisation that assists patients, relatives and the cardiac unit at Southampton General Hospital. Jim decided to help this charity in response to the care he received after he suffered a cardiac episode in 2007. They started the team in early 2008 and started training for the challenge in the early spring. The event consists of getting up Britain's highest three peaks within 24hrs, Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in Wales.
| The Team left to right: Adrian Craven, Jay Witts, David Cook, Bob Miles, Steve Saunders, Pete Bunting and Jim Cook (team leader crouching) | |
They completed the challenge (peak to peak) in 23hrs and 27mins. Jim said "I found the challenge to be singularly, both physically and in some respects, mentally, the hardest thing I have ever done but thoroughly enjoyable, exciting and very rewarding."
They raised a fantastic total of £2879.02.
The team would like to thank: TPI Services Ltd, Maincrest Vehicle Hire Ltd., Fareham West Explorers and staff at: Calor Gas, Aviva, Esso Petroleum, Truvox, Southampton University...and of course everyone else who supported them.
