A big 'Thank you' to all the participants who turned up to support our 'Walk a mile' event on Sunday. The mile long walk starting from the Holiday Inn, walking along the Town Quay line and then returning back to the Holiday Inn was walked by patients, their families and supporters to help promote awareness of heart conditions. Everybody taking part was asked to do so in somebody else's shoes (or different shoes) to highlight what it is like to live with a heart condition.
Our photographs show the range of 'shoes' worn, each tell their own story. First, second & third place prizes were awarded to the most innovative interpretation of "walking in somebody else's shoes".
One of the prizes was awarded to Gemma Harrison Tate who not only had her foot bandaged especially for the occasion but also walked the mile with her crutches! The Harrison Tate family attended the event on behalf of their nephew, Callum McColl, who has Shone's Syndrome, a complex disorder which means he has multiple abnormalities with the left side of his heart. Another of the prize winners had recently been diagnosed with a heart condition and wanted to help promote the charity.
As D'Arcy Myers explains "My own Clown outfit and shoes were chosen for this event as one of the 3 Stooges, Shemp, died from a heart attack. I would like to thank everybody who 'walked the mile' for Wessex Heartbeat and the wonderful array of shoes that were worn!".
