There are many running events that take place around the UK. Including the London Marathon, the Great North, the Great South and also wheelchair races. If you would like to run in an event on behalf of Wessex Heartbeat, please contact the fundraising team for more information.

Marathons - 26.2 miles

If you are lucky to have obtained a place in a marathon and are running for Wessex Heartbeat please let us know. We will be able to promote your Just Giving page, help you with fundraising ideas and provide you with a Wessex Heartbeat running vest.

London Marathon

Taking place in April each year, the London Marathon is considered to be the best marathon to run in the world. 30,000 runners each year take up the 26.2 mile challenge starting in Greenwich Park and Blackheath and celebrate their finish as they run the last leg to the finish line in The Mall.

Edinburgh Marathon

Considered to be the fastest marathon in the UK, the Edinburgh Marathon is a flat road course. Growing in popularity each year, the course has an overall elevation drop of 40m making it an ideal Marathon for individuals aiming for a personal best.

Other Marathons

Why not consider running a marathon overseas? There are many including Prague, Paris, Dublin, Stockholm to even the Polar Circle marathon! Please get in contact if you are interested in taking part in an overseas event.  


BUPA Great Run Series

A fast, flat and scenic course in Portsmouth and Southsea, complemented by a superb atmosphere has propelled the BUPA Great South Run to being one of the most popular running events in the UK. It's an event that is just as suited to the international elite as it is the recreational jogger. The BUPA Great South Run also features 'ChampionChip timing', which ensures every runner will receive a completely accurate running time. BUPA Great North Run 10km - September

The Bupa Great North Run celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2010 and is a point-to-point course that starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields. In the UK only the London Marathon and British 10K attract similar numbers of athletes each year. Wessex Based Runs

New Forest Half Marathon- September

Are you ready for a real challenge? Then take on the New Forest Half Marathon! This Multi-Terrain event has to be one of the most scenic half marathons around and a real must for people looking to get in shape and conquer this challenging course.
