Saturday 17th October sees the second GRIM Duathlon - a great event for those wanting to take their first step in to the world of off-road adventure racing. Held on the Army's vehicle testing track in Aldershot, a mixed terrain - trails, rocky paths, sand, mud, hills and through some rather large puddles, the duathlon will be a 5k run / 20k mountain bike ride / 5k run. The emphasis is on fun and you won't be able to cycle the whole way - there's water involved!
We are asking people to raise sponsorship for Wessex Heartbeat by completing this event, sponsorship forms can be downloaded here. If you would like to know more about fundraising for Wessex Heartbeat, please contact the fundraising team.

You can enter it with your friends and run as a team, about 50% of the field does this, or brave it alone. So dust off that mountain bike you've stopped using and enter the GRIM Duathlon
What to wear?
Clothing - Hopefully you'll have a good idea of what you're going to wear both for the run and on the bike. If a complete beginner, wear synthetic clothing both T-shirt or long sleeve shirt, and some running tights on your legs. The materials should ideally wick away sweat and dry quickly when wet. Remember, cotton is not good at this and is heavy when wet. Footwear - Off-road running shoes would be ideal for the terrain but if not, normal road shoes.
Course
The land is used as an army vehicle testing area so expect it to get interesting. You will run on a mixed terrain and you'll get wet. The bike route will be 2 laps of a 10k loop that includes a rocky circuit, sand dune and sandy paths, a hill circuit, moguls and some water. Be prepared to get off your bike and carry it in sections - this is a GRIM Duathlon!
First AidMedical support will be present on the course and at the finish. You should be relatively fit and have no known medical conditions. Please note - do not compete with a cold or flu. This can be extremely dangerous.
