Wessex Heartbeat's "Santas" Cut A Dash For Really Good Claus

Wessex Heartbeat Staff and Runners dressed as Santas

Decked out in their festive finery these Santas were parked up at Southampton Common for a very good reason.

The red-robed runners had swapped their sleighs and glass of sherry for a pair of trainers and bottled water as they participated in the annual Southampton Santa Dash.

This year the event was being held in aid of Wessex Heartbeat and the team from the Wessex Cardiac Unit and their supporters raised more than £700. The popular event, which attracted more than 160 "Santas" to the 5km course, also gave them an opportunity to put their prescriptions into practice and get out into the fresh air to take some exercise within the 326-acre site.

Tina Richardson, Events Co-ordinator for Wessex Heartbeat commented: "The Santa Dash was a great opportunity to celebrate Christmas whilst helping put something back into the local community."
