A team of 14 cyclists from Hendy Group’s sales and service departments will be among those taking part in this weekend’s Hendy Wessex Heartbeat Cycle Sportive.

Cyclists from the automotive group will be taking part in either the 40 mile or the 70 mile routes in the sportive which also includes a 10 mile route to appeal to as many people as possible.

Hendy is the official sponsor of the event which takes place on Sunday September 8th, starting and finishing in Romsey with three routes in the Test Valley.

Mark Busby, commercial director at Hendy, said the team was really looking forward to taking part in the event which aims to raise thousands of pounds for Wessex Heartbeat.

“At Hendy we have a strong association with cycling having successfully run a number of Tour de Ford events from our dealerships and Olympic gold medalist Dani Rowe is one of our ambassadors,” said Mark.

“Cycling is such a fantastic sport and I’m so pleased to see Hendy and Wessex Heartbeat putting on an event that will allow local people to enjoy it while raising money for a worthy cause.

- Dani Rowe, Olympic Gold Medalist

The Sportive route takes the cyclists through Romsey over to Winchester, Stockbridge and Broughton where the 70 and 40-mile routes split. The longer route travels over to Salisbury and the shorter 40-mile route travels back to Romsey via East Tytherley. The 10-mile route weaves around the quiet lanes of Wellow and Sherfield English.

John Munro, CEO of Wessex Heartbeat, said active fundraisers such as running and cycling events are becoming even more important for the charity as it works to get people fitter and healthier. “Increasingly we’re working more on the preventative side of cardiac disease so the more people we can get outdoors and exercising the better,” he said.

The route will be arrowed and marshalled, with support from Cycle World along the route, as well as refreshment stops with support from Hildon Water and Asda’s Totton branch.

Its not too late to take part!
