Heartbeat House

Arguably one of the toughest parts of going through a major heart or cardiovascular medical procedure is the way in which your family and friends can visit you.

It’s no secret that the emotional impact of living with a heart problem is huge, so the importance of your friends and family being there during this time for support and love is massive.
What if you had a heart attack 100+ miles from home?  Because a heart attack is such a sudden medical emergency, it is not uncommon for people to suffer from one of these life threatening attacks when very far from home. If this were to happen, you would be admitted to the nearest capable Hospital for emergency treatment. This would obviously make family and friends being able to visit much more difficult, and would only make matters worse than they already are.
This is why Wessex Heartbeat offers families and friends of patients that are admitted to the Wessex Cardiac Centre, free accommodation at Heartbeat House located directly opposite the centre itself.

Heartbeat House is a 25 bedroom house, with cosy lounge areas and facilities that make the house a home from home for everybody that stays there. It is a quiet refuge for relatives when someone they love is undergoing treatment in the Cardiac Centre. Only a 3 minute walk from the wards guests can stay as long as their loved one is in hospital. The reassurance relatives get from being able to stay in Heartbeat House cannot be measured.

Heartbeat House is available to relatives of children; young adults and adult patients treated at the Wessex Cardiac Centre. Our policy is not to charge for rooms. We only ask for a £25 key deposit and gratefully accept donations from those wishing to donate. The House is staffed Monday – Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and at weekends from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.
