We are on a mission to transform the Heart Failure Unit for patients and their families and we need your help to make it happen.
Renovating the D2 Ward Heart Failure Unit
Did You Know? Heart failure, sometimes called congestive heart failure, is when the heart isn’t able to pump enough blood as well as it should around the body. It doesn't mean the heart has stopped working, but it may need support to function effectively. It’s usually a long-term condition that can slowly get worse over time.
Heartbeat is proud to support the heart failure unit which is set to become the second dedicated Heart Failure Unit (HFU) in England and the largest in the UK, thanks to the scale of its service and patient population.
Â
The renovation will include:
Ward Transformation: Refurbishing the current Heart Failure ward (D2), updating the clinic room, and repurposing nearby clinical areas to create a welcoming, consistent environment for patients and families.
Faster Emergency Care: New spaces will help Heart Failure specialist nurses assess patients faster—whether arriving in A&E or referred by community nurses—speeding up admissions or allowing safe discharge without long Emergency Department waits.
Dedicated Family Spaces: Quiet, private rooms for emotional conversations and respite, shared with families on D3 caring for loved ones post-cardiac surgery.
Remote Monitoring at Home: Discharged patients will be given digital blood pressure monitors (approx. £25 each), allowing the Heart Failure team to monitor them remotely and plan hospital care only when truly needed—improving both safety and comfort.
Smart Inpatient Tools: Â Plans include investing in Bluetooth-enabled devices like scales and digital notes for better tracking and care on the ward.
Tailored Exercise Programmes: Designed for both inpatients and those recovering at home, these programmes will build confidence and encourage movement—proven to benefit most patients with heart failure.
Healing Green Spaces: A new perimeter walking route or garden space will offer patients and families a safe, scenic way to stay active and spend time outdoors.
If you’re moved by this project and want to help make a real difference, we would be so grateful for your support.
Our goal is to raise £100,000 to help create a more modern, comfortable, and healing environment for patients facing some of the toughest challenges of their lives.
Please consider making a donation as every pound brings us closer to a future where heart patients receive the dignity, care, and comfort they truly deserve.
