Leading housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Southampton Division has raised £140,000 at its annual charity gala in aid of cardiac charity Heartbeat.

The black-tie charity gala held at the Utilita Bowl in Hedge End was named the ‘Queen of Hearts’ ball in honour of its chosen charity Heartbeat, which provides specialised equipment, services and facilities to support cardiac patients and their families.

Representatives from the charity, as well as Barratt David Wilson Homes staff and the housebuilder’s contractors came together for a three-course meal, entertainment and a heartfelt talk from ex-England rugby captain Matt Dawson. Guest speakers also included a former heart patient that had benefited from the charity in his childhood and continues to volunteer and raise funds for them to this day.

During the night guests were urged to pledge their funds to the cause through donations, as well as a raffle and auction, with prizes including VIP tickets to watch Rubgy at Twickenham, signed football memorabilia, luxury hampers and 5* holidays.

Heartbeat CEO Mark Ind, who also spoke during the evening about his own experience of the charity, said: “The grand total raised reflects Barratt David Wilson Homes true commitment to supporting what we do at Heartbeat. We’re hugely grateful for every ounce of time and effort the team have generously dedicated to fundraising for our charity and organising such an amazing night.

“The money will go towards providing life-saving medical equipment, research into heart disease prevention and rehabilitation, patient support and training courses for staff at our Wessex Cardiac Unit.”

Matt Paine, Managing Director of Barratt David Wilson Homes Southampton said: “This was a truly special evening – our charity gala is an event everyone looks forward to each year. It’s a chance to bring together all of the talented people we work with and celebrate an amazing charity that’s making a big impact.”
