The countdown is on for cardiac charity Heartbeat as it gets ready to bring its ‘biggest ever’ fundraising event to Southampton Common on Sunday 29th June.

Heart & Stroll – the charity’s open-to-all fundraiser consisting of a 5km walk around the common - will be making its debut this summer with more than 300 sign-ups already.

The gentle walk is accessible to all with no need to run or complete the course at speed, making it perfect for families and their four-legged friends.

But the event is more than just a walk in the park. Southampton FC player James Beattie will be bringing the tunes with a live DJ set, Marvel character Captain America will be on standby for selfies, performances from Spot-On productions, and broadcaster Michael Kurn will be hosting.

For those looking for a taster of what the event has in store, Heartbeat has just launched its promotional video on the Heartbeat social media platforms, including Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/UKHeartbeat) featuring 40 of the charity’s supporters and Heartbeat’s furry mascot Flo the Bear.

Tanya Harder, Project Lead of heart and Stroll said: “We’re really excited to bring the event to life with a vibrant village atmosphere – complete with live music, photo spots, delicious food vendors, and a range of stalls. It’s a lovely chance for families to spend time outdoors and (hopefully!) enjoy some sunshine together.”

"Heart & Stroll aims to raise funds for the renovations on D2 Ward at University Hospital Southampton so that not only can the unit become the UK’s Leading Heart Failure unit, but it can continue supporting more of our community’s cardiac patients and their relatives. As always, Heartbeat are incredibly grateful to each and every one of our supporters and sponsors who dedicate so much to our cause.”

Participants who register in advance will receive a t-shirt and a fundraising pack. Registration will also be available on the day for those who wish to join later.
