A brave fundraiser has begun an intensive training programme as he gets ready to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats – and take on the Three Peaks Challenge in between.
Adam Blackwell will be taking on the gruelling challenge in April 2026 with the aim of raising £10,000 in aid of Southampton cardiac charity Heartbeat.
He is currently training 7 days a week, with a mix of in gym and outdoor cycling. Coming from a coaching background, Adam is tailoring his nutrition plan to keep fueled for the challenge ahead. Adam’s target for completing the challenge will be 14 to 16 days.
Commenting on his challenge, Adam said: “Preparation is off to a strong start and I’ve got time on my side. I’m confident I’ll be fit and ready to go in April. The gym sessions and bike rides are tough but they’re helping condition me for the task ahead."
“I love fitness and I love doing hard stuff. I also loved my nan, lots. She passed a few years ago of vascular dementia and if her heart had been stronger the effects of the dementia wouldn't have been as harsh. That's why I've chosen Heartbeat as the charity I want to support and a mammoth task requires a mammoth target.”
Funds raised will go towards supporting cardiac patients and their families across the Wessex region and beyond.
Marketing Manager at Heartbeat Tanya Harder said: “We are all behind Adam here at Heartbeat. While this challenge is a significant test of endurance and determination, it stands as a powerful source of inspiration. Heart disease affects countless people, whether personally or through loved ones, and for Adam, this cause is deeply connected to his nan, who meant a great deal to him.”
“£10,000 would have a profound impact on the support we offer cardiac patients and their families when they need it most. It would help us continue to provide specialised equipment and facilities for the Wessex Cardiac Unit, and ensure families staying at Rotary Heartbeat House can remain close to loved ones as they undergo vital, life-saving care."
Adam is being supported by the GBHQ Tour team along his journey, and their aim is to share his challenge as it unfolds.
“Adam has been a part of the GBHQ coaching team for a number of years, and he never fails to set the bar when it comes to inspiring fitness challenges. This challenge is the perfect example of what GBHQ stands for — pushing limits and motivating others through fitness. We’ll be following his journey as part of a documentary to capture the reality behind it and hopefully inspire others to chase something bigger than themselves. Along the way, the GBHQ Tour aims to stop at handful schools to share that same message with the next generation.” Jay - Founder // GBHQ
