Ex-Soccer AM presenter Peter ‘Tubes’ Dale and former Premier League striker James Beattie have joined forces to take on the ultimate golf challenge in aid of Southampton cardiac charity, Heartbeat.
This inspiring duo – nicknamed ‘Beatts and Tubes’ – will soon be swinging into action for an incredible fundraising challenge. They aim to complete 18 holes of golf across 18 different courses within just 18 hours, beginning at Boundary Lakes Golf Course in Southampton and finishing at Remedy Oak in Wimborne.
The money raised will go towards Heartbeat’s latest project, the renovation of Rotary Heartbeat House, their 24 bedroom “home from home” accommodation that allows relatives of cardiac patients to stay for as long as they need to, while their loved ones are receiving life-changing and life-saving treatment at the Wessex Cardiac Unit at the University Hospital Southampton. The cause is particularly meaningful for Tubes who suffered a heart attack in his late 30s.
Commenting on the fundraising challenge, Tubes said: “I know first hand the importance of high-quality cardiac care, whether someone’s recovering from a heart attack or managing a long-term condition. It’ll be a tough challenge but it’s all for a fantastic cause I’m passionate about supporting.”
James Beattie said: “This is a charity that’s making a difference right on our doorstep and I’m delighted to be part of such an uplifting fundraising project. With the support of some of the south’s finest golf clubs, the day promises to be the ultimate test of golfing endurance!”
Matthew Cornick, Event and Fundraising Coordinator at Heartbeat said: “We love it when our supporters set their own unique challenges, and this is certainly one of the most ambitious we’ve seen. The pair are not just pushing themselves to the limit, but they’re also helping raise vital awareness and funds that will directly benefit cardiac patients and their families.”
Mark Ind, CEO at Heartbeat added: “We’re incredibly grateful to both for taking on this remarkable challenge in support of our charity. What Peter and James are taking on is no mean feat and I wish them the very best of luck. Fingers crossed for sunny skies on the day too!”
