On 26 April, four incredible runners laced up their trainers and took on one of the world’s most iconic endurance event, the London Marathon, all in support of Heartbeat.
Taking on the gruelling 26.2-mile course through the capital, Sam Scott, Charlotte Stone, Molly Moore and Kate McLaughlin each stepped up to the challenge with determination, passion and purpose. Every mile they ran was powered not only by stamina, but by deeply personal reasons for choosing to support Heartbeat and the families the charity helps every day.
Together, the four runners showed extraordinary commitment, crossing the finish line in fantastic times and raising vital funds to help Heartbeat continue providing life-changing support to cardiac patients and their loved ones.
Running with heart: the stories behind the miles
Each of our marathon runners had their own powerful motivation for taking on this unforgettable challenge.
Kate McLaughlin

For Kate McLaughlin, running the London Marathon was inspired by her cousin James and the support Heartbeat has provided to him and his family during some of their most difficult moments.
“My cousin James has undergone open heart surgery to replace a valve three times, and throughout these difficult times, one thing that made a huge difference to James is the facilities that allowed family to stay close by while he was in hospital.
James and family live hours away from the specialist hospital, and the thought of not being able to stay nearby during such critical moments is unimaginable. The accommodation and support available to them provided stability, comfort, and the ability to be exactly where they needed to be — right by his side.”
Kate’s marathon effort was a moving tribute to James and to the families who rely on Heartbeat’s support when they need it most.

Molly Moore
For Molly Moore, supporting Heartbeat is deeply personal.
“This charity is incredibly important to me and is very close to my heart. I have seen first-hand the powerful impact of their support and services and how much of a difference it makes in a time of need.”
Molly’s words reflect the real and lasting difference Heartbeat makes to patients and families facing cardiac treatment, recovery and uncertainty.

Charlotte Stone
Charlotte Stone took on the marathon in honour of her partner Alex, who has undergone multiple major heart surgeries at a young age.
“My partner Alex has undergone four major open heart surgeries — and he is only 27 years old — as well as other planned procedures. Heartbeat have been there to support us on those occasions.”
Charlotte’s marathon journey was one of strength, resilience and gratitude, inspired by the support Heartbeat has shown her family through every stage of Alex’s treatment.

Sam Scott
Sam Scott’s story is one of determination, courage and proving that anything is possible.
“At 20 stone, I’m no typical runner. I’ve struggled with my weight and knee pain, but I’m determined to prove that strength isn’t about size, it’s about heart, grit, and never giving up.”
Sam’s incredible effort captured the true spirit of the London Marathon and served as a powerful reminder that resilience comes in many forms.
