Meet Paul Rogers – A Story of Strength, Recovery, and New Beginnings

After suffering a heart attack, Paul Rogers was airlifted from Guernsey to University Hospital Southampton, where he received life-saving cardiac care. Following a successful 6-week rehabilitation programme, Paul is now embracing life with renewed energy alongside his wife, Claire.

As part of his recovery, Paul joined the Guernsey Walking Football Club — and it’s been a true game-changer.

Claire and Paul started playing walking football in 2019 after Paul's AF Ablation and it helped his recovery then and has continued to do so after his heart attack.

Going to the gym can be daunting, especially after a cardiac event. It’s not always easy, physically or emotionally. But walking football offers a brilliant alternative — players get to enjoy the fresh air, keep moving, and gradually rebuild their heart health in a safe and enjoyable way.

The Guernsey Walking Football Club runs four sessions per week and is open to everyone, not just cardiac patients. Whether you're living with heart disease, Parkinson’s, dementia, or have mobility challenges, this inclusive sport welcomes all abilities — no experience necessary.

For Paul, it’s not only been a life-saver in terms of fitness and recovery, but also a wonderful way to socialise, make new friends, and simply have fun. The support, camaraderie, and sense of community have made a real difference in his journey.

We’re incredibly proud of Paul and the amazing work of the Guernsey Walking Football Club.
