Residents and businesses from across the Isle of Wight have experienced a two-day heart health awareness drive from cardiac charity Heartbeat.
During the two days, a grand total of £1,064.80 was raised for Heartbeat as they hosted a ‘Healthy Heart’ pop-up clinic hosted by a specialist cardiac nurse, a networking event sponsored by Emerald Elite VA Services, and the charity’s ‘Beat the Heat’ quiz night at Ryde Castle Hotel.
Each event put Heartbeat’s vital work delivering cardiac care and support to 3.5 million people across the south of England into focus, whilst raising awareness of good heart health.
Attendees benefitted from a hands-on demo of how to use the Island’s defibrillators in an emergency and bespoke lifestyle advice to help keep their own hearts healthy.

One of the Heartbeat’s most well-attended events, the quiz night hosted at Ryde Castle Hotel saw 12 teams battle it out with the Island Echo taking the winning prize on the night. Runners up were Wight Life Group and best team name with “Hartbeat, what do I get when Tanya quizzes me” went to Emerald VA Services. Quiz Master, George Bernowicz, was the judge on the night for the best team name.

Funds raised will go towards renovations at Rotary Heartbeat House – a peaceful place to stay just a three-minute walk from University Hospital Southampton so relatives can be close by while their loved one receives treatment.
The charity has recently seen its impact grow on the Isle of Wight, with families staying at Rotary Heartbeat House from the Island rising from 6% to 10% in the last 12 months.

Community Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Tanya Harder said: “As we welcome back the warmer weather, it feels like the perfect time to engage with the Island’s community and lift spirits! We’re seeing an increasing number of residents from the island make the journey across the Solent to benefit from our support. I’m delighted with how well-attended they have been and the funds we’ve raised – we’re always grateful for every ounce of support we receive.”
Heartbeat will be returning to the Isle of Wight on Thursday 10th September for its next quiz evening hosted at The Bargeman in Newport. Due to limited number of Teams, you have to book in fast. Contact Tanya on 02380 706095 or email tanya@heartbeat.org.uk now.
