Southampton cardiac charity Heartbeat has raised just under £2,000 at its popular quiz night.
The Beat the Heat Southampton quiz night was held on 25th February at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour, and saw 22 teams of six pitting their wits against each other, testing their general knowledge to the maximum all while raising much-needed funds for the charity.

Winning team “Lumie’s Bright (Ish) Sparks” took home the title of Beat the Heat champions, followed by “Lollipop Ladies make me cross” closely behind. There were plenty of superb prizes up for grabs in the raffle including comedy tickets from The Attic Southampton and a variety of beautifully designed hampers.

The quiz night is very popular and this years quiz was no different. Proceeds from this year’s quiz will go to funding their latest pilot role, “Heart Failure Psychological Support Worker”. Funding the role of Heart Failure Psychological Support Worker allows Heartbeat to support patients from the start, after being diagnosed, and providing that access straight away to reduce the number of cardiac patients suffering in silence, lessening the high levels of anxiety, and increasing the improvement on their mental health.

Matthew Cornick, Events and Corporate Fundraiser, commented: “Having only been working for Heartbeat for the past 3 months and taking on this event, it was truly a fantastic evening that brought our community together in support of Heartbeat. The generosity shown by everyone who attended was incredibly heartening, and we’re so grateful for their support.”
“Events like this are really important for raising vital funds to continue the work we do supporting patients and their families being treated for heart conditions at the University Hospital Southampton.”
